A group of Greek companies composed of Skaramangas Shipyards, Qualco Group and Olympic Marine have signed a memorandum of understanding to research, develop, produce and demonstrate a multi-purpose unmanned autonomous surface vessel.
The agreement covers the development of a dual-use autonomous vessel intended for defence, security and commercial applications in domestic and international markets.
Skaramangas Shipyards will contribute shipbuilding capabilities, while Qualco Group will provide software and artificial intelligence technology. Olympic Marine will support the project with its experience in manufacturing composite-material hulls.
The partners said the project responds to growing interest in protecting maritime, energy and underwater infrastructure. They intend to develop the vessel in line with international standards and certification requirements to support potential exports.
“Artificial intelligence and algorithmic digital technologies are key accelerators of modern defence and industrial innovation,” stated Qualco Group Executive Chairman Orestis Tsakalotos. He added that the company aims to develop dual-use solutions to strengthen the technological base across defence and commercial applications.
Skaramangas Shipyards Chief Executive Officer Miltiadis Varvitsiotis said the cooperation combines shipbuilding expertise with newer technologies for autonomous naval systems. Olympic Marine Chairman Nikolas Dendrinos said the project would provide an application for the company’s composite-material manufacturing capabilities.
