Longship’s Newest 6,250DWT Shortsea Cargo Vessel Floated Out

Dutch shipbuilder Ship and Steelbuilding (SAS) has launched a new shortsea cargo vessel ordered by local owner the Longship Group.

Longpower is the fourth unit in a series of eight dry cargo vessels to be built for Longship by a collaboration of SAS and GS Projects. Her sister ships Longpearl, Longpride, and Longpeace were handed over earlier this year.

Upon completion, Longpower will have an LOA of 103.08 metres, a beam of 16 metres, a draught of 6.2 metres, and a deadweight of 6,250.

The original contract between Longship, GS Projects, and SAS covered the construction and delivery of four firm vessels with options for up to four additional vessels from the same series. The options for all four additional ships have since been exercised.

Longship said the vessels are designed for highly efficient fuel consumption and advanced eco-friendly technologies.

All eight ships in the class were designed in compliance with Lloyd's Register class requirements and Finnish/Swedish ice class 1A specifications.
