Seventh Thaon Di Revel-class Patrol Ship Delivered to Italian Navy

Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has delivered the seventh Thaon di Revel-class multi-purpose offshore patrol vessel Domenico Millelire to the Italian Navy during a ceremony in Muggiano, La Spezia, on September 24.

The 143-metre vessel is part of a fleet renewal programme approved by the Italian Government and parliament under the oversight of the European procurement agency OCCAR.

It is designed to perform a range of missions, including patrol, maritime rescue, civil protection and combat operations.

The ship can be configured with either a “soft” combat system focused on patrol and self-defence or a “full” configuration providing broader defence capabilities.

Powered by a combined diesel, gas turbine and electric propulsion system, the vessel can reach speeds of more than 31 knots (57.4 km/h) and accommodate a crew of 171.

The ship can also supply drinking water to shore and operate high-speed craft, including rigid-hull inflatable boats of up to 11 metres, using lateral cranes or a stern hauling ramp.
