Ørsted has turned to Saab UK for a third remotely operated vehicle (ROV) to scale up underwater capabilities across its offshore wind assets.
In a bid to bolster subsea maintenance operations across its offshore wind portfolio, Danish renewable energy giant Ørsted has added a third Saab electric-powered underwater robot to its inspection fleet, deepening its partnership with Saab UK, a legal entity of Sweden-headquartered Saab.
Saab UK has received an order from Ørsted for a Seaeye Cougar XT Compact, which expands the Denmark-headquartered giant’s fleet of Saab Seaeye systems to three Cougar vehicles that support inspection and maintenance operations across its offshore wind portfolio.
The ROV’s electric architecture is said to deliver precise control and maneuverability, making it well suited to inspection and intervention work in complex subsea environments, as it combines a compact and flexible design with the power and reliability required for offshore operations.
Jon Robertson, Seaeye Managing Director at Saab UK, commented: “We are delighted to receive this order from Ørsted. Expanding its Saab Seaeye fleet with a third Cougar system reflects the confidence the company has in our technology and its ability to support inspection and maintenance operations across offshore wind assets.”
The UK affiliate of Sweden’s Saab emphasizes that Ørsted relies on advanced subsea technology to help monitor the integrity of critical infrastructure, including foundations, cables, and other submerged assets.
According to the ROV player, remotely operated vehicles play a vital role in these operations, enabling efficient inspections and maintenance activities that help maximize asset availability and support energy generation.
Saab UK’s Seaeye ROVs have operated in some of the world's most demanding subsea environments for more than four decades, with Cougar XT Compact continuing that heritage to assist those responsible for maintaining the infrastructure that supports the global energy transition.
Last year, the UAE-based CCC (Underwater Engineering) bolstered its subsea fleet to nine Saab remotely operated vehicles to strengthen its offshore inspection and construction capabilities.
