US Coast Guard Unit Concludes Joint Logistics Exercise in South Korea

US Coast Guard Port Security Unit 309 personnel have returned to Port Clinton, Ohio, following their participation in a bilateral logistics exercise alongside South Korean forces in Pohang.

The combined joint logistics over-the-shore exercise, conducted under US Transportation Command between July 10 and July 20, marked the first time in nine years that both nations held the combined training event.

More than 1,900 service members from the US Army, US Marine Corps, US Navy, Republic of Korea Navy, and Korea Coast Guard took part in the manoeuvres.

Operations focused on discharging military cargo from vessels at sea to an undeveloped shoreline, with personnel establishing temporary port facilities to deliver vehicles, supplies, and equipment.

During the mission, the unit provided waterside security across a 24-hour operational environment and deterred 70 recreational vessels from entering the designated security perimeter.

The training tested troop mobilisation and the ability to maintain supply lines in simulated contested conditions.

Port security units deliver waterborne and land-based defence for shipping and critical harbour infrastructure, operating either independently or alongside other defense forces.

According to the coast guard, the unit is one of eight nationwide capable of deploying globally within 96 hours of recall.
